Hi all!
It has been a wonderful week! Very busy. Our son came home for a visit, he lives very far away , so it was nice to see him. I've been working on the mural. What fun I am having with it. It is so exciting to see it coming together.
I took a break today to gather inspiration. We all need to be inspired , don't we?
I found some great treasures while shopping in the wonderful town of Lake Odessa. I had never been in the antique mall. Wow! lots of great stuff to look at. I found an ORANGE picnic basket!
Then I went to the bead store in Grand Ledge. Can you tell what my favorite color is?
My last stop was Horrocks for some tasty fruits and veggies! There is beautiful color all around us. How blessed are we.
Have a good week everyone. I'll keep you posted.
God bless,
Cathy

I was so excited to start working with the children. We had a very productive week! I had the privilege to meet every student. All of them did such a great job! Thank you to all of the teachers for being so helpful. What a wonderful positive teaching staff!
The children got to help me put the tiles on the mesh pieces, so they know which part of the mural they worked on. We got quite a bit done. Now it's time for me to go to work in my studio and piece it all together. I will keep you posted on the progress.
Parents, you have spectacular children!

Getting ready to start working with the kids!

Progress

Today some good friends of mine shared there "smart board" with me.
Thank you to the teachers at Northeastern Elementary School. They have always been very supportive of me.
I drew the design to scale. The next step is to cut the drawing into 12x12 squares and start the tiling process.
I hope that my order comes soon from the mosaic store and then its off to school!

I'm still here!!
So........ All the tiles are sorted! Such great colors!
I have ordered the supplies I need to get started, and next week I hope to start in working with the kids.
I have had a busy week, our daughter had her second baby!! We are so blessed. We have been awfully busy taking care of our first grandchild while mommy and daddy were in the hospital.
But it's off to work next week for this nona!

It all starts with an idea, a vision , a dream........

And so it begins ......

Thank you to the dedicated teachers at woodland elementary for applying for a grant so this project can come to fruition.
And thank you to the Lakewood Education Foundation for the generous gift of the grant!

I wanted this project to be a "green project" , so I decided to use all recycled materials.
I have started to collect tile samples and I must say I have many!
The first thing I did was to have the children draw their vision of what they would like this project to look like.
I received many wonderful drawings , I have decided to use several ideas.
I will use a projector to blow up the images on a four foot square sheet of paper.
Add a few of my own ideas and then I will cut the drawing into one foot sections.
Keep following the blog as I post pictures and the work in progress.

The end result of this project will be on display in the school.
It will measure four foot square.
The children will be helping me throughout this project.
I am so thankful that I've been given this opportunity.
